Biography
Yushima Cherry has over 8 years of experience working with families and survivors of abuse and other trauma. Her program “JUST US” is nationally recognized as the main program for the YWCA. Her passion is eliminating abuse on every level and helping others understand their potential and worth. Her duty is to help improve the conditions of those who work in the field serving families, by developing a market that is self sufficient for agencies therefore decreasing burn out and compassion fatigue. She has always been excited about working closely with legislation to improve policies that affect all stakeholders, to better serve clients, families and communities.
In 2006, she founded a company that focused on prognosticating child sexual abuse, abuse and neglect. It offers trainings and workshops on various subjects: nurturing, parenting, healing from abuse, racial justice, teen-pregnancy prevention and breaking the cycle of abuse. Her reputation as an advocate against child sexual abuse in the Midwest proceeds her.
She continues to develop comprehensive programs for clients. She holds certifications from various facilitators, nurturing and parenting courses. She earned a Business Management Degree from Cardinal Stritch University, 2004, Honors, and a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Oakwood University, 2011, Magna Cum Laude. She is currently enrolled in the graduate program at A&M University, she will earn her Master’s in Social Work, 2015. Her goal is to earn a PhD in education, and continue to improve communities on a micro and macro level.
She has been featured on: TMJ4 News (Positively Milwaukee), The Journal Sentinel, Black Women 50+ Magazine and various radio programs. She has written several articles on child abuse prevention, as the Huntsville Child Prevention Examiner, June 2009-June 2010.
She has developed several curricula for organizations in the Midwest. Yushima has conducted a thousand plus workshops since the summer of 2006. Now, she speaks where she is needed. Clientele include: The University of Milwaukee Wisconsin, YWCA of Greater Milwaukee, Running Rebels, The Milwaukee Public Theater, The Boys and Girls Club Inc., Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA), The Task Force against Family Violence, the Milwaukee Public Schools (references available).
She authored a book developed to help families know what to expect after disclosure of sexual abuse, entitled, “Secrets, Games and Guilt-A child’s recollection of events after disclosure of sexual abuse.” You’ll find Ms. Cherry’s continued passion in her most recent publication, “Picking up the Pieces to 100 Broken Promises.” “I am looking forward to continuing this ministry on the road to healing and complete recovery for every man, woman and child,” says Cherry.
